Keep The Faith: The Timing Is Perfect

From the Future Works Gazette
August, 2006

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the
age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the
epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the
season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the
spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had
everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all
going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other
way–in short, the period was so far like the present period,
that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received,
for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

– Charles Dickens

It may come as no surprise to you that we are undergoing an epoch change of humongous proportion. What I always refer to as Take a Flying Leap Time. Visionary author Jean Houston calls this Jump Time in her book of the same name. The opposing stakes of dissipation or breakthrough are monumental. Unchecked, they will topple us in Tsunami fashion.

Not to worry.

We are right on time.

We have entered a process of renewal. It may not sound or feel like it at the moment.

All processes of nature are forcing us to spring forward from hardship and uncertainty to a better future. The big challenge for all of us is putting Greatness, a “New Age” meme, into real time. It won’t happen until we learn how to Take a Big Picture View.

I know it’s hard to think about greatness in the face of so many threats at our borders and in our very own space in time. But it’s an evolutionary imperative.

…one has to have strong cojones and ovaries to withstand much of what passes for “good” in our culture today.

Spiraling forward in our own personal and planetary development (just like our adolescence or the midlife renewal process), we must accomplish certain developmental tasks if we are to move through the sequential stages of our life course…our time here on earth. One critical task is to learn how to Take a Big Picture View. Not only of current events in the world, but also in our workplaces and our everyday lives.

The Crisis is Evolutionary

Our world is undergoing a major clean-up. A major tug of war encompasses the world. As always it’s about power and control over resources, peoples and landmass. Pushed past its natural limits, our planet, and life as we know it, is destined to breakdown. Self-correcting, the earth always jumps into the next phase of her development.

Breathe a sigh of relief. The timing couldn’t be better.

Now at last, the universal symbol of the Feminine in all of us, our Mother Nature, is calling to us. The intensity of the alerts is getting deafening. Aberrant weather patterns, the dying off of whole species and the threat of pandemics are clearly bell-weathers. She is challenging us to self-correct, and quickly.

What has commonly been called the “midlife crisis” is acting as an “evolutionary crisis” through which people are seeking expanded purpose and ways to add value in their everyday lives and for the world at large. This acts as an evolutionary impetus for a quantum leap in consciousness.

The time is ripe now for those of us who want to take a quantum leap to go from “doing great” to leading with greatness for the common good. Every great epoch and life stage gets birthed into existence by a collision of forces. Take a look back at planetary as well as human history. Even your own family history. It takes a great force to catalyze quantum leaps of growth and development.

The individual, transformed, will perceive new meaning to his life, to events, to numbers, to interactions between people.

Now Is the Time

The good news is that positive change is already underway. Grass roots style. More and more outlets for sharing “new paradigm” thinking and acting are emerging, eg, publications like Sojourners, Worthwhile, Enlightenment, etc. And more recently, Al Gore’s legacy making documentary: An Inconvenient Truth telling it like it is about global warming and its impact on our future.

Plenty of leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals are doing a job well-done especially in challenging times. Pushed to emergence out of sheer fear for their future, they are our shining stars in a dark time. Those who understand the stakes are taking the lead in every segment of industry and specialty.

For those of us who envision a better future, now is the time to go for it! New skill sets and perspectives are required. Old habits don’t die easily. We weren’t trained for this new tour of duty. Change is the norm. Time is moving rapidly with little to spare. That’s the nature of life and commerce these days. Our rapidly shrinking markets and new “global village” connectivity is forcing us all to either dissipate or break-through.

I have faith in the breakthrough. I can see the bigger picture.

How about you?

Ours is an era of quantum change, the most radical deconstruction and reconstruction the world has seen.

– Jean Houston
