Summer holidays mean so much to me. As a kid it was time for a long school break and sleep-away camp. (Little did I know how important it was for my folks!:) It may only be two weeks now, but it's still all about dropping out...vacating completely. Reminiscent of my long ago teaching days, it's also a precious time to revamp and finish all those in-process projects before the fall.
Best of all, July 4th means reunion time with my 30-something kids and their honeys. We shower each other with lots of "I love you's" and bear hugs galore. We celebrate our daughter's engagement. Living far apart, our reunions are always a special time.
But now there's an ever present razor-edge reality slicing into our reunion awareness.
KEEPING COOL WHEN EVERYTHING SEEMS TOO HOT!
July's news is a constant bummer. Madness run wild. War of the Worlds is baby stuff compared to what we are facing right now. We are in a global war at all levels.

Let's face it: it's hard to really vacate and celebrate when the world is in such constant turmoil. Makes me sad. Downright scary too. It's just so obvious that if we keep going in the direction we are headed, we'll end up there. I don't want that as my destination nor my legacy to the grandkids on the way. I hear some version of these thoughts bubbling up a lot these days.
